Even though more access to information is given to buyers and sellers in this technology driven world, real estate agents are still needed as a guide through the home buying process. What skills and qualities are most important to both buyers and sellers? The following six qualities rank the highest according to the National Association of Realtors:

  1. Honesty and Integrity: Buyers and sellers are more attracted to someone they trust and who has their best interest at heart. You want to build your trust with your client throughout the transaction as well as building a foundation for a lasting relationship.
  2. Reputation: Referrals are huge in this industry and you want to have high service levels to increase your reputation. This is a major factor in giving you an advantage over other agents.
  3. Knowledge: As the realtor, you not only need to have knowledge of the real estate process but also the market and local neighborhood.
  4. Responsiveness: In this fast paced industry, a good rule of thumb is to respond within a few hours or a day at the most, depending on the situation. Even if you respond to your client that you received their message and will get back to them, this shows that you are working hard for your client and their home ownership goals.
  5. Communication skills: Make sure to ask your client if they prefer communication via text, email or a phone call as different generations have different preferences.
  6. Improving skills: In order to improve your skills, you need to practice them on a regular basis and you can also attend seminars/workshops to help expand your knowledge and gain tools that will not only benefit you but your clients as well.
