Summer is finally on it’s way out and the weather is starting to cool down. You may even be putting up your fall decorations, we don’t blame you! After you spruce up your house, take a look at your lawn and garden. September is the perfect month to start planting your vegetables and herbs.

This is a perfect time to plant ground covers! There are several types of ground covers that thrive in September. Horseherb has yellow flowers, frog fruit has white flowers, and both can be mowed. There are many other kinds of ground cover, do some research and find the plant best suited to your style.

Like vegetables? This is a great time to start your veggie garden. The best vegetables to plant this month are: broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, lettuce, collards, chard, and endive.

Want some more color in your lawn? Combined with your new ground covers you can add as many flowers and plants as you’d like, here are some plants that are best planted in September: alyssum, aster, calendula, cornflower, dianthus, larkspur, lobelia, petunia, phlox, snapdragon, wildflowers, nigella, pansy, poppies, sweet pea, larkspur, and stock.
