Protect your Family with a Disaster Plan

Disasters can happen anywhere and anytime. Is your family prepared in the event that a disaster would occur? Be prepared with a Family Disaster Plan so that you will be able to calmly protect yourself and your family until help arrives.

  1. Find out which disasters are most likely to occur in your area.
  2. Meet with your family to discuss the types of disasters and plan on what steps to take.
  3. Plan how to stay connected with your family by choosing a meeting place in case of fire or other disasters.
  4. Post emergency phone numbers by every phone in your house or program numbers into all cell phones.
  5. Decide which family member is responsible for turning off the utilities.
  6. Install a smoke detector and CO detector on each level of your home and learn first aid/CPR.
  7. Meet with your neighbors to work together on a plan, especially if the parents aren’t home for child care/help.
