Headed on Vacation? Tips to Prevent Summer Theft

Summer months are to have the highest home burglary rates so please make sure to follow this home checklist in order to prevent unwanted guests from entering your home.

  • Lock It Down: This is pretty straight forward but make sure to place a steel rod or wood block in the frames of older sliding doors.
  • Fake Them Out: Even put a fake home security sign to either deter or slow them down. Also, consider installing motion sensors on your exterior lights.
  • Tie Up Loose Ends: Take the time to put toys away in the house or garage. Stop your mail and package delivery to avoid showing that you are not home.
  • Don’t Leave A Spare Key Out: Burglars have a real knack for finding hidden keys, so leave the actual key with a neighbor or family member if needed.
  • Avoid Valuables in the Master Bedroom: The first stop for burglars is the master bedroom as this is where most people store cash and jewelry so choose a different, unusual hiding place.
  • Avoid Showing Off: If you have made a large or expensive purchase, avoid putting the box out by the trash which would notify burglars of it in your home. Also, make sure you close all curtains around your home to avoid curious burglars.
